Hospital Newborn Photography at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital

Fresh 48 sessions take place during your baby's first 24–48 hours of life before you leave the hospital. These sessions focus on all the tiny details you'll never get back—the wrinkled fingers, hospital bassinet, first family snuggles, sibling introductions, and the feeling of those first hours together.

For families searching for Piedmont Atlanta newborn photography or videography, these sessions are a beautiful way to preserve your baby's first hours without committing to full birth coverage.

At Piedmont Atlanta, we offer Fresh 48 photography, Fresh 48 video, or a combination of both.

Photography captures beautiful still images of your baby's earliest days, while video preserves the movement, sounds, and emotions that photographs can't fully convey. Many families choose our photo and video collection to create a more complete record of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Fresh 48 sessions at Piedmont Hospital are relaxed and baby-led. There is no need to clean your room, dress everyone in matching outfits, or worry about your baby sleeping through the session. We work with the natural rhythm of your family's day and document your story as it unfolds. These hospital newborn sessions are about one hour long and completely documentary/candid. We will also get a few family portraits while we’re there.

At Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, your Fresh 48 session will take place in your private postpartum room. The recently renovated maternity rooms are bright, comfortable, and offer a peaceful setting to document those first precious hours with your new baby.

For families wanting a little extra space, Piedmont also offers upgraded accommodations in the Waters Pavilion. These spacious two-room suites include a private bedroom and a separate living area, making them especially comfortable if you're welcoming visitors or simply want more room to settle in with your growing family. The additional space can also provide a beautiful backdrop for your Fresh 48 photos and video. Suite upgrades are available on a first-come, first-served basis through the hospital.

How to Prepare for Your Fresh 48 Session

The best preparation is simply bringing a few items you already planned to pack. Consider packing a neutral swaddle, a special outfit for baby, and simple clothing for parents and siblings. Soft, neutral colors photograph beautifully, but comfort is always more important than coordinating outfits. Avoid matching mommy and me outfits, as the baby gets lost in photos.

Hospital rooms can be warm, so lightweight clothing tends to work best. Most importantly, don't stress. The beauty of a Fresh 48 session comes from real moments, not perfection. Don’t feel like changing out of the hospital gown- that’s great, too!

Introducing Siblings at Your Fresh48 session

We love to document your big kids meeting your new baby! A Fresh48 session is the perfect way to be fully present while also capturing the moment through photos and/or video. When we have siblings joining for hospital newborn photos, we recommend timing their arrival for 15-30 minutes after we arrive. That way, we can get pictures and video of the new baby alone and with parents, and when siblings arrive, the focus is more on them. We can even meet them in the hallway to let them warm up to us a bit before joining you in your postpartum room.

This goes for visiting grandparents, too. We welcome them to join the session, and postpartum rooms fill up quickly, so it’s best to allocate part of our time for them.

How Booking Works

Booking your Fresh 48 session is simple. We reserve space on our calendar around your due date and remain on call as you approach delivery.

Once your baby arrives at Northside Hospital, simply send us a text message. The photographer who is on call will respond and coordinate a session time with you based on your recovery, visitors, and your baby's schedule. Most Fresh 48 sessions take place within the first 24–48 hours after birth, while you are still at the hospital.

Because babies rarely arrive on schedule, our on-call system allows us to provide flexible coverage for families delivering at Northside Hospital year-round.

If you're looking for a natural, documentary-style Atlanta Fresh 48 photographer or videographer, we'd love to help you preserve the first chapter of your baby's story. These fleeting moments disappear quickly, but your photographs and films will allow you to revisit them for years to come.
